First Presbyterian Church of Phillips, Wisconsin First Presbyterian Church of Phillips, Wisconsin
GENERAL FUND OUR GOAL: $10,000 Being a church without a building, our overhead costs have lessened considerably. We are renting downtown office space and pay a token amount for weekly use of the worship facilities at the local Catholic church. As with any organization, the bulk of our operating costs support personnel, (and in our case, the staff consists of one full-time pastor). We are a generous congregation, and, despite the economic downturn, the decline of the mainline church, and the extra hardship of demolishing a beloved building, our current ministry needs would be met with $1,000 per month in extra donations. True to our call to ministry and the vision for a new building, we are also a congregation committed to mission: we ask our members to tithe (pledge a percentage of their income) and pledge at least 10% of our annual budget to ministry beyond our own church programs. Thank you for supporting our ongoing ministry! Above: This stained-glass window was part of our former church building and will be installed in the new church.
Reaching Out to Touch Lives with the Love of Jesus Christ!
WILLS & BEQUESTS OUR GOAL: $500,000 Past bequests from members and non-members that were set-aside in a “rainy day” fund allowed the congregation to make difficult decisions regarding our old church building before seeking pledges to build new. However, such estate gifts to First Presbyterian Church have historically been a pleasant surprise, both in terms of the decision to designate and the amount. We are gingerly approaching our members about including the church in their wills, offering generous pro bono legal expertise in changing or adding beneficiaries. We hope that the resulting financial wherewithal will allow our church to make the next sweeping change that will be necessary in adapting to an ever- changing spiritual landscape. Our new building is designed for just such an eventuality. Including our church in your "planned giving" will help us to be financially prepared, as well.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN OUR GOAL: $200,000 The journey towards our new building has proceeded on three parallel tracks: 1. Preparing our 3 lots on Avon Avenue for new construction 2. Working with an architect and local contractors to design a multi-functional facility 3. Generating finances through pledges, grants, and loans that will allow us to build soon, while keeping us solvent in making mortgage payments over the coming years We have received a solid estimate of $577,000 for the entire project, which we intend to finance with a succession of 3-year pledge drives at $200,000 each. Our church has no current debt — a testimony to the generosity of former members, granting us the freedom to envision a future. We have challenged our current membership to dig deep: Not daring anyone to put themselves at risk but inviting everyone to give, at whatever level they can afford, to underwrite a center of ministry and community activity that will serve the City of Phillips for years to come. We are hopeful that designated gifts from outside the congregation will speed up the loan process and lower our monthly mortgage. Consistent with our challenge to member families in the congregation, ten percent of the funds our church receives through the Capital Campaign will be given to the ministry of the larger church. We believe God is already providing! (Please Note: Donation of stocks, annuities, real estate, or gifts-in-kind are encouraged. Contact us to request more information.)
